Shanghai : For the first time Damco came very close to obtaining the prestigious award of “Airfreight Forwarder of the Year” during World Air Cargo Awards 2012. This position is a clear testament to Damco’s recent advancements in air freight
The World Air Cargo Awards 2012 is an annual event celebrating excellence and achievement in the global air cargo industry. This year it happened on 6 June at the renowned Kerry Hotel in Shanghai. With 10 different categories, each award is based on the results of voting by readers of the leading world air cargo publication “Air Cargo Week”, making them subject to the perusal of air cargo professionals throughout the industry.
On the award of “Airfreight Forwarder of the Year” professionals are asked to consider the companies according not only to their global network coverage and customer service focus and performance, but also on the shown commitment to developing new technology.
Freight Forwarder and logistics provider Damco, part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, came close to winning Airfreight Forwarder of the Year, as one in three runner ups to the award.
“We are extremely proud of this accolade from the industry, even though we only came close to winning”, said Remo Eigenmann, Global Head of Airfreight at Damco.
“It’s a tough race to be acknowledged for presence in the top four and this is the first time we have achieved this. It is a clear statement of our recent air freight focus”, he said.
In 2011 Damco’s airfreight tonnage more than doubled.
This reflected the acquisition of Chinese air freight forwarder NTS in August 2011, as well as a number of large customer wins. But even excluding NTS, Damco secured a highly satisfactory volume growth of 37%, in spite of the overall declining airfreight market.
