...Special Promises need Special Care

MUMBAI: It’s not very often that a boiler weighing 25 tonnes and significantly long gets shipped from Mumbai to Antwerp. And when it does, it certainly requires the right expertise, equipment and moreover, the right kind of people who believe in teamwork.  This is what exactly happened when Maersk Line with its long-time customer Orchid Shipping India Pvt. Ltd teamed up to ship an 83-feet-long consignment, surpassing the previous achievement of shipping a 73-feet-long cargo.

The well planned shipment, right from scheduling the sailing of the cargo from a specific date and time, to arrival of the cargo at the destination, helped to reduce the transit time by 50 per cent. The transit time was reduced from 45 days to 22 days as it was not loaded on conventional break-bulk. This fine coordination helped the customer meet its logistics requirement, emphasised a release.

"Maersk Line’s Special Cargo team extended their kind cooperation not only for space, but also for arrangement of all special equipment on time, stowage and meeting commercial expectation to motivate customer for loading on Maersk vessel. They also managed to get the necessary approval from origin and destination terminal for handling this parcel on time," said a statement by Orchid Shipping India Pvt. Ltd.

Commenting on the refinery project, Paibon 2, Mr Franck Dedenis, Managing Director, Maersk Line (India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), said, "I am very pleased that the Maersk Line team along with the Orchid Shipping team have been successful in handling this OOG consignment. We believe in continuously seeking ways to provide the most competitive, innovative, reliable and sustainable services to our customers.

We will continue our strategy to be closer to our customers by providing integrated cost-effective logistical solutions."

The project was shipped through M. V. Shams which sailed from Nhava Sheva on February 17, 2017.

"Customer first" is at the heart of the way Maersk Line does business. In order to better provide every customer with shipping solutions, Maersk understands the needs and partners to build a strong relationship. Maersk Line’s collaboration with Orchid Shipping is one such example, highlighted the media release.
