NAVI MUMBAI: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has created history by achieving an all-time high record of container handling in fiscal year 2016-17.
JN Port has handled around 4.50 million TEUs in fiscal 2016-17 as compared to 4.48 million TEUs handled during the last fiscal year.
Among all terminals, JNPCT handled 1.533 million TEUs, while APM Terminals Mumbai (GTI) handled 1.79 million TEUs, DP World Nhava Sheva (NSICT) registered a throughput of 0.73 million TEUs and NSIGT handled 0.45 million TEUs in 2016-17. Overall the Port handled around 62.025 million tonnes, according to the port sources.
JN Port Authorities has been implementing various initiative under the Ease of Doing Business like Direct Port Delivery facility inorder to reduce the cost as well as dwell time required for clearance apart from setting up India’s first port based Multi Product Special Economic Zones spread across 277 hectare of land.
Recently it became the first Major Port to install Radiological Detection Equipment at Road & Rail Gates. Moreover it also berthed MSC Sola, the deepest container vessel to be handled at JN Port till date having a draft of 15.20 meters on 28th March 2017.
