MbPT to connect Ropeway service between Sewree to Elephanta Island

MUMBAI : In pursuit to boost tourism, Mumbai Port Trust has taken initiative to connect the Mumbai Main land at Sewree with Elephanta Island (a UNESCO world heritage site) by eco-friendly, pollution free and highly energy efficient transportation mode Ropeway. This will be world’s longest ropeway approx. 8km. in length.

In this direction MbPT has earlier appointed consultant Burns International, UK to prepare techno-economic feasibility report.

After the submission of the report by the consultant stating that the project is economically and technically viable, MbPT has invited global expression of interest from prospective bidders to give their ideas, concept and suggest methodology for execution of project.  On 20.04.2017 pre-proposal conference was organised to interact with prospective bidders.  The conference was attended by leading world technological experts in the field of Ropeway Doppelemayer from Austria, Poma from France alongwith leading Indian operators namely TATA Reality Consultancy, TATA Consultancy Engineers, Conveyor and Ropeway Services Pvt. Ltd. System and Damodar Ropeways and Infra Ltd. and others.  Shri Yashodhan Wanage, IRS, Dy. Chairman, MbPT has addressed them and explained the proposal in detail.

Shri Sanjay Bhatia, IAS, Chairman, MbPT had an interactive session and requested the prospective bidders to provide their concept and ideas for successful implementation of the project within a fortnight.  Further, he assured that all the statutory clearances required or any change required to modify the Ropeway Act will be taken up.
