...FIEO looking at various potential sectors including Textiles, Technology, Infrastructure, Food processing etc for trade with Italy: Mr Nari Kalwani, Regional Chairman, FIEO (Eastern Region)
KOLKATA: FIEO organized an interactive session with Mr Damiano Francovigh, Consul General, Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata with exporters. Mr Nari Kalwani, Regional Chairman, FIEO (Eastern Region) stated that the total trade between India and Italy in the period April to February, 2016-17 had been USD 7809.63 million with exports from India to Italy of USD 4287.91 million and an import of USD 3521.71 million. It was encouraging to note that items such as Leather, Textiles as in Silk, Chemicals, Jute products, Engineering items, Marine products are already being exported to Italy.
The exporters of Rubber sector enquired about the potential for rubber products in Italy while the exporters of fresh vegetables expressed interest in setting up subsidiary company in Italy. Mr Damiano Francovigh, Consul General gave a detailed presentation on Italy and its business environment. Replying to the queries of the exporters he assured them of every possible guidance and informed that there was potential trade to grow in sectors such as food processing, technology and infrastructure.
Besides exporters from various sectors, the interactive session was attended by members from Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Export Promotion Councils, Senior Officials from DGFT, Kolkata, Kolkata Port Trust, Airport Authority, UCO Bank and State Bank of India.
