Paradip Port awarded for 2nd highest Traffic growth by Ministry of Shipping

PARADIP: Union Shipping Ministry has awarded Paradip Port for achieving 2nd highest growth in traffic for the year 2016-17. Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Shipping and Transport appreciated PPT’s performance and presented an award to Paradip Port Trust for achieving 2nd Highest Growth in Traffic for the year 2016-17.

Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT received the award for PPT from the Minister during the review meeting held at Dona Paula, Goa recently.

Paradip Port Trust has received the distinction for the second year in a row for receiving award from the Ministry of Shipping.

Paradip Port has handled 88.95 MMT of cargo during the year 2016-17 as against the previous year traffic of 76.38 MMT and thereby achieved overall traffic growth of 16.5%, which is the 2nd highest growth in traffic among the Major Ports of India for the year 2016-17.  Incidentally, the 12.55 MT incremental cargo handling in 2016-17 achieved by PPT is the highest amongst all Major Ports.

During the year, the Port Performance Parameters viz., Berth-day output improved to 23139 MT with 12.24% growth and the Berth Occupancy is 66% as against 67% of the previous year despite of handling of 16.5% more cargo.
