MUMBAI: Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) organised a Design Charette for “Re-imagine and beautify Mumbai Docks and Waterfront” on 30th July 2017 at Port House. Objective of charrette was to get fresh ideas from Architects, Students, Landscape expert, Artist, Environmentalist to make the Port area more vibrant, functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Prior to the charette a site visit of Mumbai Dock area was arranged. The visiting participants were pleasingly amazed about the activities of Mumbai Port.
In all 42 participants attended the charette. 9 groups were formed and they were asked to select the themes for the Dock Beautification on their own. In the charette, each team presented their idea before the Chairman, MbPT.
The participants gave innovative ideas for reinventing the Port area. The proposals include wall painting and murals, waterfront development, skywalks illumination system green pocket conservation of heritage buildings, lighthouses.
Shri Sanjay Bhatia, IAS, Chairman appreciated the efforts taken by the participants and while thanking them assured that their ideas will be further developed and will be implemented at the earliest.
