Visakhapatnam Port inaugurates RFID access gates

VISAKHAPATNAM: A radio frequency identification gate (RFID) was opened at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) on 28th August 2017.

The key objective of the proposed RFID access gate is to enhance security at all gates, automate and speed up movement of port activity, generate visibility of activities in and around port area and to comply with ISPS (International Ship and Port Security Code).

The RFID-based access control system will help the port accomplish Ease of Doing Business in a more transparent and efficient manner.

VPT Chairman MT Krishnababu inaugurated the gate at East Quay-7 and GCB Gate on the port premises. Krishnababu said as part of "Modernization of Indian Sea Ports" and in order to enhance security, removal of bottle necks of seamless movements of traffic across port gates, ensure tracking, tracing of men, material, vehicle and equipment, the port initiated implementation of RFID-based access control systems.
