NEW DELHI: India is organising an India-LAC conclave in Chile early next year to spur exports to South America. Anita Nayar, Indian ambassador to Chile, said recently: “After a slump in 2015 and 2016 due to impact of low copper price, both countries seem poised to hit record levels in 2017. The Indian auto makers, including Telco and Mahindra, have already entered the Chilean market, selling commercial vehicles, cars and two wheelers.” India is also targeting the pharmaceutical market in Chile and is among the top 10 Indian exports to the country. Both countries are in discussions to finalise phyto-sanitary requirements for the export of avocados, walnuts and blue berries from Chile and the import of mango, coco peat, and pomegranate from India, the Indian envoy added.

The tour of eminent people has been organised as a curtain raiser for the Latin America Business Conclave, slated for March next year, she added. Also, a big delegation from Chile, led by former President Eduardo Frei (Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Chile on Special Mission to the Asia-Pacific Region), is scheduled for October.
