Capacity on Asia - South America West Coast Container trade to jump 18% in 2018 : Alphaliner

LONDON: The Far East - West Coast South America (WCSA) container trade is set for a whopping 18% increase in capacity this year according to Alphaliner.

The acquisition of Hamburg Sud by Maersk Line the requirements on the merger imposed by the Chinese and South Korean authorities has resulted in a wholesale revamp of services on the trade between Asia and WCSA.

From April there will be 10 services between the Far East and WCSA with 105 vessels deployed with a capacity of 893,000 TEU. This compares to nine services with 95 vessels totalling 775,800 TEU deployed previously.

According to Alphaliner capacity is up 15% on current services in the trade, and 18% year-on-year.
