NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has removed port restriction for import of apples.
DGFT in a notification said, “Port restriction for import of apples covered under Export-Import Code 08081000 is hereby removed.”
Earlier import was allowed though both sea ports and airports in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai & Cochin; and land port and airport in Delhi.
Import of apples were also allowed through India’s land borders.
The restrictions were introduced by the Government as a form of non-tariff barrier aimed at protecting Indian producers after receiving pressure from domestic transporters.
