V O C Port initiates several measures to improve Cargo handling productivity

TUTICORIN: V O Chidambaranar Port has initiated several measures to improve the productivity of the cargo handling operations, the Port's Deputy Chairman S Natarajan said on February 19.

Delivering the presidential address at the valedictory function of productivity week observed by the port he said the measures include mechanisation of cargo evacuation from the Ninth berth to the coal yard.

Harbor mobile cranes have been deployed in the port which will enhance the productivity of handling bulk cargo in the port. Road widening works are on inside the Port premises to improve the movement of vehicles.

The Port's efforts to augment the capacity by carrying out various infrastructure projects should be supported by Port employees and Port Users, he said.

Mr S R Ramakrishan, Director of SPIC Tuticorin who was the Chief Guest said survival of any organisation depends on how productive we are in the era of globalisation. Productivity should be part of our DNA. He also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held on the occasion.

Mr T.S. Ashok Kumar, Senior Deputy traffic Manager, V O Chidambaranar Port welcomed the gathering and Mr C Ramaswamy, Deputy Traffic Manager of the Port proposed a vote of thanks.
