January | CMA CGM opens in Singapore its Fleet Navigation and Port Operations Center
A critical navigation support unit of the Group’s vessel operations, the Singapore Fleet Navigation and Port Operations Center is a state-of-the-art facility that leverages the latest navigation assistance tools and technologies to track and examine wide-ranging nautical, meteorological and geographic information in real-time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The center in Singapore is dedicated to serving the Asian time zones; the Group’s two other centers – located in CMA CGM’s corporate headquarters in Marseilles, France, and its regional office in Miami, United States – take charge of the European and Americas time zones respectively.
February | Jacques Saadé appoints Rodolphe Saadé Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group
On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Mr. Jacques Saadé announced the appointment of his son Rodolphe Saadé as Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group. Jacques Saadé remains Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In November 2017, in accordance with the wish of Jacques Saadé and after having reunited the positions of CEO and Chairman of the Board, the Board of Directors decided to appoint Rodolphe Saadé to the position of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, and Jacques Saadé Founder-Chairman.
March | CMA CGM and PSA inaugurate the extension of their container Terminal in Singapore
On March 27th, 2017, French President François Hollande inaugurated the commissioning of the extension of the « Lion Terminal » located on the brand new Pasir Panjang Terminal in Singapore and jointly operated by CMA CGM and PSA. With the addition of two more berths under Phase 2 of its development, CPLT is now equipped with a total operating capacity of 4 million TEUs.
Pursuing its development in port operations, the CMA CGM Group and Adanis Ports and Special Economic Zone signed a joint venture agreement, on April 25th, 2017, to jointly operate for a minimum duration of 15 years Mundra Port’s new container terminal. The terminal, which spans over 27 hectares, has a 650-meter long quay and an annual capacity of 1.3 million TEUs. Mundra Port is India’s largest container port.
On July 25th, CMA CGM signed the concession agreement for the new container terminal of the Port of Kribi (Cameroon). The consortium of French groups CMA CGM and Bolloré Transport & Logistics as well as the Chinese group CHEC, will manage and operate the Kribi Container Terminal for 25 years under a Public-Private partnership with the State of Cameroon.
This terminal is a logistical hub, offering the Cameroonian supply chain a modern infrastructure, adapted to the new generation of ocean vessels, and allowing all of Western Africa to redirect containers toward countries of the Sub-Region.
Today equipped with a 350-metre-wide, 16-metre-deep dock, the Kribi terminal can host ships with an 8,000-TEU capacity. In phase 2, Kribi Containers Terminal will operate 11,000-TEU vessels. It will have a 715-metre dock, 32 hectares of open ground and the capacity to process 1.3 million TEUs each year.
April | Launch of OCEAN Alliance, the most important operational alliance
CMA CGM launched, on Saturday April 1st, the 40 new maritime services of its new operational alliance: OCEAN Alliance. Combining this new offer of maritime services with a global intermodal and logistics offer, CMA CGM Group and its subsidiaries supply its customers with tailored solutions, even more competitive on the routes Asia-Europe, Asia-Mediterranean, Asia-Red Sea, Asia–Middle East, Trans-Pacific, Asia-East Coast of North America trades and Transatlantic.
In December 2017, CMA CGM strengthened its unmatched service offering by announcing the launch of the Day Two Product in April 2018. CMA CGM will deploy 122 ships on 41 services. This new offer is a perfect example of the Group’s customer-centered strategy set up by Rodolphe Saadé.
May | CMA CGM upgrades its digital offer and launches the new version of its mobile app
The Group’s mobile app was overhauled with new features:
• available in 5 languages (English, French, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese) on Android and IOS tablets;
• an ergonomic interface that makes all features intuitive and easy to use and also provides access to customer service;
• the ability for customers to follow their shipments from the port of loading to the port of unloading;
• access to schedules of specific ships or trips in order to plan shipments;
• the possibility to obtain one or more shipping routes between two points, selected optimally by the app out of more than 200 shipping lines and more than 400 vessels from the Group's fleet;
• CMA CGM Group’s corporate news including new services and rate information.
June | SHIPPING THE FUTURE: CMA CGM unveils its new ambition and its new visual identity
On June 28th, CMA CGM unveiled its new ambition through a new slogan, a new visual identity and a new graphic identity. This new ambition reflects the Group’s values of boldness, imagination and integrity. It also shows the Group’s energy as well as its ability to innovate and reinforce its image worldwide.
With its new visual identity, the CMA CGM Group demonstrates that it can go beyond all imaginable boundaries.
July | Official Visit of the Mayor of Shanghai at the CMA CGM Tower on July 4th
Mr. Rodolphe Saadé, Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, welcomed at the CMA CGM Tower on July 4th, 2017, Mr. Yong YING, Mayor of Shanghai, who was on an official visit to Marseille for the signature of the 30 years of twinning between the two cities. On this occasion, the Mayor of Shanghai and Rodolphe Saadé looked back on the history of the remarkable relationship between China and CMA CGM since 1992.
CMA CGM in China today:
• more than 3,000 people in 61 agencies;
• 119 shipping lines are calling 13 Chinese ports;
• 5 weekly services to France, nearly one daily departure from the port of Shanghai to France;
• 2 weekly services between Marseille/Fos and Shanghai.
August | The CMA CGM THEODORE ROOSEVELT largest ship ever to cross the Panama Canal and to call the East Coast of the United States
On July 26th, 2017, the new CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt (14.414 TEUs) began its voyage by leaving Asia’s shipyards to begin its rotation on the South Atlantic Express Service (SAX) from Hong Kong. The ship called the Port of Panama City on August 21st before reaching Colón on the 22nd, becoming the largest ship ever to cross the Panama Canal.
On August 28th, the CMA CGM Theodore Roosevelt called the port of Norfolk, then Savannah on the 31st and Charleston on September 2nd before reaching the Port of New York and New Jersey for the inauguration of the Bayonne Bridge on September 7th.
It became the largest ship ever to call the East Coast of the United States.
September | CMA CGM signs a strategic partnership with Infosys to accelerate the transformation of its Information System
Innovation and digitalization are at the heart of the Group’s strategy. The CMA CGM Group signed a strategic partnership with Infosys, a world leader in consulting, technology and next-generation services. The goal of this seven-year partnership is to simplify and transform CMA CGM's IT applications and improve customer service excellence.
October | CMA CGM strengthens its operations in the South Pacific with the acquisition of SOFRANA Unilines
CMA CGM purchased, through its subsidiary ANL, the majority of the shares in SOFRANA Unilines, a key player in the Pacific Islands regional maritime trade.
October| CMA CGM pursues its digital strategy and announces its will to create its own incubator in Marseilles
At the Salon des Entrepreneurs (trade fair) in Marseilles, Rodolphe Saadé, CEO of the CMA CGM Group, announced the Group’s intention to create its own start-up incubator in Marseilles, and to attract them from around the world. This project complements various local initiatives developed by CMA CGM:
• support for Le Carburateur, the incubator for the northern districts of Marseilles. 5 businesses related to the sea, transport and logistics sectors received financial support from CMA CGM;
• partnership with Aix Marseille French Tech, a key player in digital innovation;
• partnership with The Camp, an innovative campus bringing together large companies, start-ups, teachers and researchers;
• partnership with Infosys, a global IT leader, to accelerate the transformation of its information system.
This also complements the initiatives implemented through the Corporate Ventures fund, CMA CGM Ventures.
November | World Innovation: CMA CGM is the first shipping company to choose liquefied natural gas for its biggest ships
On the occasion of the COP23 in Bonn (Germany), the CMA CGM Group announced its decision to equip its 9 future ships of 22,000 TEUs, delivered in 2020, with engines using liquefied natural gas (LNG). CMA CGM is becoming the first shipping company in the world to equip giant containerships with this type of motorization, thus pursuing its firm commitment to the protection of the environment and to ocean conservation. LNG will allow for:
• up to 25% less Co2
• 99% less sulphur emissions
• 99% less fine particles
• 85% less nitrogen oxides emissions
On December 4th, CMA CGM and Total announced the signature of an agreement covering the supply of around 300,000 tons of liquefied natural gas a year for 10 years starting in 2020.
November | CMA CGM is part of the 1% most successful companies according to the CSR ratings agency Ecovadis
For the third consecutive year, CMA CGM received the "Gold Recognition Level" by Ecovadis, the first collaborative platform providing Supplier Sustainability Ratings for global supply chains. The Ecovadis’ report underlines the excellent performance of the CMA CGM Group in the following themes: environmental compliance, labor practices, fair business practices and sustainable procurement.
The CMA CGM Group was honored several times during the past year for the quality of its services, its innovations and its expertise. Among those distinctions:
• the BFM Award of the “Best family business”;
• the Saadé Family was ranked in the Top 10 of Lloyd’s List’s 100 most influential people in the shipping industry;
• the trophy for best multimodal services at the 7th edition of La Nuit du Short Sea;

December | The CMA CGM Corporate Foundation awards its 2017 prize to the association SOS Children's Villages France
Naïla Saadé, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, presented the Foundation's 2017 Prize to the leaders of the SOS Children's Villages France Association on December 7th. This Prize recognized the extraordinary work that this association carries out on a daily basis for the educational and pedagogical support of children, their happiness and their emotional reconstruction.
December | CMA CGM Group completes the acquisition of MERCOSUL Line
CMA CGM Group completed the acquisition of MERCOSUL Line. MERCOSUL Line is one of the leading players in Brazil’s domestic container shipping market. The acquisition of MERCOSUL Line allows
CMA CGM to strengthen its service offering in Brazil, and more broadly in South America, especially in cabotage and “door-to-door” services. The activity of MERCOSUL Line is part of CMA CGM’s core strategy, which is to develop intra-regional sea transportation links and complementary services such as logistics.
