This service will also connect cargo from Gujarat to Port Blair via Chennai
MUMBAI: Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has been providing coastal services to the trade between ports on the West Coast of India to Kochi, Tuticorin, Katupalli, Krishnapatnam and Haldia.
In our endeavour to provide coastal services to the Indian trade in all locations of India, SCI is now embarking on a new service called Chennai Port Blair Service (CPBS) to run between Chennai and Port Blair.
The CPBS will make her inaugural voyage from Chennai to Port Blair on 14th May 2018 and will provide a sailing every 10 days. This service will also connect cargo from Gujarat to Port Blair via Chennai.
According to a media statement, the launch of this service will not only benefit shippers from Tamil Nadu, but also from Gujarat and shippers can now use SCI containers for shipments from Kandla/Mundra to Port Blair which will benefit the trade.
C&MD, SCI, Capt. Anoop Sharma, encouraged his coastal team to start more coastal services with additional port calls in line with the Government’s Vision of improvement of the coastal connectivity, said a SCI release.
